NEC Reports Peaceful Start to Campaign Season

PHNOM PENH: Cambodia’s National Election Committee (NEC) issued a press release on July 3 emphasizing that the third day of campaign season continued smoothly and without incident. The statement encouraged Cambodians to vote according to their ability and opinion in the upcoming National Assembly election on July 23.

The election campaign season for the 2023 National Assembly election goes for 21 days from July 1 to 21. According to the NEC, the first three days of election campaign season have run smoothly, safely and orderly. Meanwhile, the Capital and Provincial Election Commission (CEC) said that on the third day, political parties campaigned across the country, most of which involved microphone broadcasts at party headquarters and mobile convoys distributing leaflets and rallying supporters.

Most of the rallies were held by the long-reigning Cambodian People's Party. However four political parties held parades including the Cambodian Nationality Party in Phnom Penh, FUNCINPEC in Tbong Khmum, the Khmer Anti-Poverty Party in Kampong Speu and the Khmer United National Party in Pailin, Kampong Thom and Preah Vihear provinces.
